Men's Soccer Prepares for Home Conference Showdown vs South Florida

Panthers enter with a 3-1 record in conference play

MIAMI – The FIU men's soccer program returns home Sunday evening for an in-state American Conference matchup against South Florida at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.

The Panthers (5-5-2, 3-1 American) look to bounce back following a 5-0 setback at No. 21 Seton Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 7, which closed out their non-conference slate.
 
FIU enters the weekend tied with Florida Atlantic atop the American Conference  standings with nine points through four league matches. Following Sunday's contest, the Panthers will play road conference games at Tulsa and UAB, as well as a home finale set on Friday, Oct. 24, against Charlotte.
 
Junior Pasquale Capriati continues to spearhead FIU's attack, leading the team in goals (4), points (11), shots (14), and shots on goal (9), while tying for the team lead in assists (3). He has appeared in 11 of 12 matches this season, making nine starts.
 
Senior Mathys Lefebvre has been a steady force on both the midfield and backline, logging 894 minutes—third-most on the team—while appearing in all 12 matches with 10 starts. He has recorded back-to-back 90-minute outings, including in the match at No. 21 Seton Hall.
 
Midfielder David Boccuzzo has stepped into a starting role, appearing in all 12 matches with 11 starts. He's contributed one goal, two assists, and 10 shots, picking up his second assist of the season at then-No. 1 Portland on Sept. 30.
 
Senior Nicolas Villalobos has tallied two assists across 11 appearances, including one in the win over Temple on Oct. 3. Forward Eduardo Mustre returned to the lineup recently, scoring in the match at Portland and logging 66 minutes in the victory over Temple.
 
Enrique Mutsoli opened the Temple match with his second goal of the season, earning a spot on the American Conference Weekly Honorable Mention for his offensive effort. The senior has played in all 11 matches this season and saw 45 minutes on the pitch at Seton Hall, returning to his home state of New Jersey.
 
Sophomore Leonardo Consoloni has been a standout in the midfield, tied for the team lead with three assists—including a two-assist performance in the Temple win. He has appeared in 11 matches with nine starts and recorded 90-minute efforts in two of his last three outings.
 
Senior Joao Domingues also owns three assists while appearing in all 12 matches. Alfonso Gilleard-Soriano continues to provide reliability in the midfield, featuring in all 12 contests with one assist, including a full-match effort and an assist at Portland.
 
Scott Neil has appeared in all 12 matches with 11 starts, tying for the team lead in assists (3).
 
Defender Owen Travis anchors the backline, ranking second on the team in minutes played (932). He's started 11 matches and contributed both a goal and an assist, including his first collegiate goal in the win over Temple. The Locust Grove, Ga., native has played the full 90 minutes in each of his last four matches.
 
In goal, Nigel Van Haveren has started 11 matches, posting 37 saves and three shutouts. He added two saves at No. 21 Seton Hall on Tuesday.
 
As a team, FIU ranks second in the American in total shots (127), third in goals, and second in assists (20).

HISTORY WITH THE BULLS
Sunday marks the 36th all-time meeting between the two in-state programs, with FIU holding a 16-14-5 advantage in the series.
 
The Panthers fell 1-0 in last year's matchup on Sept. 20 in Tampa. In the 2023 meeting in Miami, FIU earned a 2-1 victory on Sept. 23 behind goals from Joao Domingues and Eduardo Mustre.

SCOUTING SOUTH FLORIDA
The Bulls enter Sunday's matchup with an undefeated 6-0-5 record, including a 2-0-1 mark in American Conference play with wins over UAB and Tulsa.
 
South Florida is coming off a 3-2 victory over Stetson on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
 
Fabio Bozesan leads the Bulls offensively with six goals and four assists, totaling 16 points on 30 shots. He has started all 11 matches and ranks third in the AAC in shots and second in goals scored.
 
Jakob Auby and Nicolas Pietrantonio have each added three goals this season, while Tyler Richardson has contributed three assists. Defensively, Marcelo Mondragon has anchored the backline, starting all 11 contests and adding one assist.
 
In goal, Jahiem Wickham has recorded 35 saves and two shutouts, ranking second in the conference in saves.
