MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – FIU Women's Soccer dropped its second straight Conference USA matchup on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Middle Tennessee.
The Panthers struck early, as senior Brealyn Viamille netted her first goal of the season just 3:13 into the match, giving FIU an early 1-0 advantage. The goal marked the sixth of Viamille's career, as she's now recorded at least one goal in every season as a Panther.
Both teams played strong defense through the remainder of the first half, with FIU limited to just two shots and Middle Tennessee tallying three, including two on target. The Panthers carried their 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Blue Raiders responded with pressure in the second half, outshooting FIU 14-4 over the final 45 minutes. Middle Tennessee finally broke through in the 84th minute, when Emma Pettersen scored her first of two goals to level the match at 1-1. Pettersen struck again just five minutes later, finding the back of the net in the 89th minute to complete the comeback and seal a 2-1 win for the Blue Raiders.
Junior Valery Restrepo tallied five saves in the contest, marking her seventh match this season with four or more saves.
FIU finished the day with six total shots and four on target. Viamille, senior Chinatsu Kaio, freshman Roxy Brewer, and redshirt junior Maya Maxwell each recorded a shot on goal for the Panthers.
