MIAMI – FIU Women's Soccer fell to Sam Houston, 1-0, on Thursday evening.
The Bearkats struck early, capitalizing on a scoring opportunity just seven minutes into the match. A Panther foul just outside the box set up a short free kick, which Sam Houston converted to take a 1-0 lead.
FIU recorded four shots in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net, sending the match into halftime with the Bearkats holding a one-goal advantage.
The second half turned into a defensive battle, as both teams fired seven shots apiece but were unable to convert. The score held steady, sealing a 1-0 win for Sam Houston.
Junior goalkeeper Valery Restrepo posted a career-high seven saves in the contest, surpassing her previous mark of six saves during the 2024 season against Liberty.
