Volleyball Returns Home to Host Delaware

Panthers took both matches on the road at Sam Houston

MIAMI – The FIU volleyball program returns to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center this weekend for a Conference USA showdown against Delaware.

FIU (10-8, 4-2 CUSA) comes back to the 305 following a successful four-match road stretch, highlighted by a two-match sweep at Sam Houston last weekend. The Panthers defeated the Bearkats in four sets on Friday before completing a straight-set sweep on Saturday in Huntsville, Texas.
 
With a 4-2 mark in league play, FIU sits fourth in the Conference USA standings entering the weekend.
 
Friday's matchup will also serve as the program's annual Dig Pink Night, as FIU joins programs nationwide in raising awareness and support for breast cancer research during the month of October.

Senior Kira Givans continues to pace the FIU attack and was named the CUSA Offensive Player of the Week for her performance at Sam Houston. The Sacramento, Calif., native combined for 37 kills and nine service aces across the two matches, including 22 kills and five aces in Friday's win. She has now recorded five straight double-digit kill performances and leads FIU with 236 total kills, ranking sixth in Conference USA.
 
Sophomore Jillian Huckabey has been a strong two-way contributor, totaling 20 kills and nine digs across the Sam Houston series. She is tied for the team lead in service aces and ranks third in kills (109).
 
Junior Courtney O'Brien continues to be a steady presence on the outside, tallying 13 digs and four kills in Friday's win before posting nine kills in Saturday's sweep. The Katy, Texas, native is second on the team in kills (158) and third in digs (164).
 
Setter Savannah Cook has been outstanding in conference play, leading all CUSA players in assists (248) through six league matches. She added 83 assists and 17 digs in the two-match sweep at Sam Houston, including her sixth double-double of the season with 43 assists and 10 digs on Friday. For the year, Cook has totaled 534 assists, ranking among the top five in the conference.
 
Middle blocker Magda Stambrowska remains a consistent force at the net with four straight double-digit kill performances, including a season-high 12 kills on Friday and 10 more on Saturday. She added four blocks in each match and has appeared in 14 contests this season.
 
Defensively, libero Mandi Morioka continues to anchor the back row, leading FIU with 298 digs—third-most in CUSA. She notched 12 digs on Friday and 14 on Saturday to help close out the sweep.
 
As a team, FIU ranks among the top five in CUSA in hitting percentage (.220), assists (807), kills (874), service aces (123), and digs (980).

HISTORY WITH DELAWARE
This weekend marks the second and third all-time meetings between FIU and Delaware — and the first in Conference USA play after the Blue Hens joined the league this summer.

The two programs last met on Aug. 31, 2018, with FIU earning a five-set victory.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS
Delaware enters the weekend 7-8 overall and 4-2 in Conference USA, riding a four-match winning streak with victories over Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee.
 
The Blue Hens are led by Logan Anna Gillens with 189 kills, while Dylan Norris has added 109 kills. Kennedi Inman directs the offense with 366 assists, and Cadence Nguyen leads the team with 183 digs. Jayda Redd has also contributed 112 digs defensively.

FIU hits the road to Fort Myers, Florida to take on the FGCU Eagles on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.. Match will be streamed live on ESPN+ from Alico Arena.
