FIU (5-6-2, 3-2 American) enters the weekend sitting fourth in the conference standings with nine points, just one point behind second-place South Florida (10 points), as the Panthers begin the first of their final three regular-season matches.
Last time out, FIU fell 2-1 to South Florida on Oct. 12 at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium. After trailing by two goals at halftime, senior
Eduardo Mustre found the back of the net in the second half for his fourth goal of the season, but FIU's rally came up short.
Mustre continues to be a key offensive threat, tied for the team lead in goals (4) while ranking second in points (8) and tied for first in total shots (17) and shots on goal (10). The senior now has 20 career goals in three seasons as a Panther.
Junior
Pasquale Capriati remains FIU's top scorer, pacing the team in goals (4), points (11), shots (17), and shots on goal (10). He has appeared in 10 of FIU's 12 matches, earning starts in each.
Senior Joao Domingues recorded the assist on Mustre's goal against USF, marking his team-leading fourth assist of the season — a new career high. Domingues ranks third in American play in assists (3) and has totaled 12 assists in 60 career matches.
Mathys Lefebvre has been a steady presence in both the midfield and backline, logging 984 minutes (third-most on the team) while starting 11 of 13 matches. He's played three consecutive full 90-minute matches.
Midfielder
David Boccuzzo continues to make an impact in his starting role, appearing in all 13 matches (12 starts) with one goal, two assists, and 11 shots. He added his second assist of the year at then-No. 1 Portland on Sept. 30.
Nicolas Villalobos has contributed two assists in 12 appearances, including one in FIU's win over Temple (Oct. 3), while
Leonardo Consoloni is tied for second on the team with three assists. Consoloni notched a two-assist outing in the Temple victory and has logged three 90-minute efforts in his last four matches.
Off the bench,
Enrique Mutsoli has provided key minutes in all 13 contests, scoring two goals this season. Freshman forward
Johan Helan has appeared in every match, earning 12 starts while totaling three goals, six points, and 840 minutes.
Defensively,
Owen Travis anchors the backline with 1,022 minutes played (second on the team). He's started 12 matches and contributed a goal and an assist, including his first collegiate goal in the Temple win.
Goalkeeper
Nigel Van Haveren has been a steady force in net, starting 12 matches with 39 saves and three shutouts. He currently leads the American Conference in total saves.
FIU ranks second in the American in total shots (151), fourth in goals (20), and third in assists (20) this season.
