Men's Soccer Returns Home to Host Temple Friday Evening

Panthers come off a matchup at No. 1 Portland

MIAMI – The FIU men's soccer program returns home for an American Conference matchup against the Temple Owls on Friday night at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.

FIU (4-4-2, 2-1 American) heads back to Miami after a hard-fought 2-1 road loss to No. 1 Portland on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Playing down a man, the Panthers leveled the score in the 70th minute on an Eduardo Mustre strike before conceding the game-winner in the 74th minute of the non-conference battle.
 
Friday marks FIU's fourth American Conference contest of the season. The Panthers enter tied for second place with Florida Atlantic at six points, following victories over Memphis (Sept. 12) and Missouri State (Sept. 21). FIU currently sits at No. 39 in the RPI rankings.
 
Junior Pasquale Capriati leads the attack with team highs in goals (4), points (11), shots (14), and shots on goal (9), while tying for the team lead in assists (3). Freshman Johan Helan has contributed three goals, including one in the win over FGCU on Sept. 18. Scott Neil has been a steady presence with 774 minutes played (leads-team), three assists, and a goal, while going the full 90 at Portland.
 
Mustre notched his third goal of the year against the Pilots, logging 84 minutes in the start.

Senior Mathys Lefebvre has totaled 714 minutes, including 90-minute efforts in two of his last three matches. David Boccuzzo has appeared in all 10 games, recording four points with an assist at Portland. Senior Joao Domingues has chipped in a pair of assists on the season.
 
On the back line, Alfonso Gilleard-Soriano has seven straight starts, playing all 90 at Portland while earning his first career assist. Leonardo Consoloni has delivered four full 90-minute outings in his last seven matches, while Owen Travis has started nine of 10 contests with 752 minutes logged (third-most on team).
 
In net, junior Nigel Van Haveren has been a cornerstone, leading the American in saves (32) while posting a 1.22 goals-against average. He recorded four stops against Portland and owns three shutouts in his last five matches.

HISTORY WITH THE OWLS
FIU prepares for its fourth all-time meeting with Temple, entering with a 2-0-1 record against the Owls.

The two sides played to a 0-0 draw last season on Oct. 26, while the Panthers secured a dominant 5-1 victory on Sept. 16, 2023, and a 3-0 win on Oct. 5, 2022.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
Temple enters with a 1-6-2 overall record and an 0-2 mark in American Conference play, dropping early league matches to Missouri State and Florida Atlantic. Most recently, the Owls fell to Monmouth, 2-0, on the road Friday, Sept. 26.
 
Offensively, Elliot Rigbert has appeared in all nine matches with five starts, recording a goal and an assist on four total shots. Charlie Votel has started every contest, adding nine shots to his stat line. On the back line, Luka Lukic anchors the defense, logging 786 minutes to pace the team.
 
In goal, Diego Dauzier and Preston Neal have split time between the posts, combining for 39 saves this season. Dauzier leads the way with 22 saves.

FIU prepares for their final non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 7, taking on Seton Hall. Kickoff from South Orange, N.J. is set for 7 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+.
