Volleyball Hits the Road to FGCU for Midweek Showdown

FIU has reeled off four straight wins

MIAMI – The FIU volleyball team hits the road for its lone midweek matchup of the season, traveling to face FGCU on Tuesday night in Fort Myers, Fla.

Tuesday, Oct. 21 at FGCU (11-7) The Panthers (12-8, 6-2 CUSA) enter the contest riding a four-match winning streak — their longest of the season — highlighted by back-to-back conference sweeps at Sam Houston (Oct. 10–11) and Delaware (Oct. 17–18). FIU has won 12 of its last 13 sets during the stretch, marking the program's best start through 20 matches under head coach Cristina Robertson.
 
Senior Kira Givans continues to pace the Panther offense, leading the team with 257 kills (3.67 per set), ranking sixth in CUSA. Givans combined for 21 kills in last weekend's sweep over Delaware, including 12 on Oct. 18 — her sixth double-digit performance in the last seven matches.
 
Sophomore Jillian Huckabey delivered a strong weekend as well, totaling 21 kills across the two matches, with 14 on Friday night. The Olathe, Kansas, native has reached double-digit kills in four of her last six appearances and leads the team with 25 service aces.
 
Freshman Rebekah Pfefferkorn continues to impress, adding 16 total kills and four blocks in the Delaware series. She currently ranks fourth on the team with 123 kills this season.
 
Graduate middle blocker Sofie Vogel set a new career high with nine blocks in Saturday's win, while also finishing the weekend with 16 kills.
 
Senior setter Savannah Cook anchors the Panthers' attack, recording 597 assists on the season, including 311 in CUSA play. She totaled 63 assists and 13 digs over the weekend.
 
Defensively, senior libero Mandi Morioka continues to lead FIU with 322 digs — third-most in CUSA. She added 24 digs across the two Delaware matches.
 
As a team, FIU ranks top five in the conference in kills (960) and assists (888), while sitting sixth in digs (1,049).

HISTORY WITH FGCU
Tuesday marks the second meeting of the season and the 21st all-time between FIU and FGCU.

The Panthers fell in four sets to the Eagles on Sept. 18 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

SCOUTING FGCU
FGCU enters Tuesday's matchup at 11-7 overall and 6-2 in ASUN play, coming off a five-set loss to Austin Peay on Oct. 19.
 
The Eagles are led by Barbara Koehler (224 kills) and Julija Grubisic Cabo (223 kills), while Koehler also directs the offense with a team-best 635 assists. Grubisic Cabo and Reese Burry anchor the defense with 173 and 172 digs, respectively.

UP NEXT
FIU heads to Lynchburg, Virginia to take on the Liberty Flames on Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25 in CUSA action. Match on Friday is set for 6 p.m. from Liberty Arena and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
