MIAMI – FIU volleyball outside hitter Rebekah Pfefferkorn has been named the Conference USA (CUSA) Freshman of the Week, while senior Magda Stambrowska earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
 
The honors come on the heels of FIU's two-match road sweep of Liberty this past weekend, improving the Panthers to 8-2 in CUSA play and extending their conference win streak to six, the program's longest since joining the league in 2013.
 
Pfefferkorn collects her first career CUSA Freshman of the Week accolade after posting 38 kills over three matches last week, including back-to-back double-digit performances at Liberty.
 
The Cypress, Texas native tallied 16 kills and six digs in Saturday's four-set win on Oct. 25, following up with 14 kills in Friday's victory. She added eight kills and three digs earlier in the week at FGCU. Pfefferkorn ranks third on the team with 161 kills this season and has appeared in all 21 matches.
 
Stambrowska captures her first career CUSA weekly honor after a dominant defensive showing, totaling 19 blocks and 24 kills across the three matches.

The senior middle blocker recorded a season-high eight blocks and seven kills in Friday's four-set win at Liberty before adding six blocks and nine kills on Saturday.
 
She also chipped in eight kills and five blocks in Tuesday's match at FGCU. On the season, Stambrowska ranks second on the team with 52 total blocks.
