Men's Soccer Takes on UAB in Regular Season Finale

Panthers hold mark of 4-3 in American Conference standings

MIAMI – The FIU men's soccer program ventures to Birmingham, Alabama, for its final regular season matchup, taking on the UAB Blazers on Wednesday evening.

FIU (6-7-2, 4-3 American) enters the contest fresh off a major conference win last Friday, Oct. 24, defeating No. 24 Charlotte, 1-0, at home. The victory marked the Panthers' 10th ranked win under head coach Kyle Russell and secured a key fourth conference win, officially clinching their spot in the American Conference Championship, set for Nov. 7–14.
 
The Panthers currently sit fourth in the standings with 12 points and have the opportunity to move up with one match remaining.
 
Defender Owen Travis delivered the game-winning goal against Charlotte in the first half—his second of the season—to earn American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Locust Grove, Ga. native leads the team in minutes played (1,202) and has gone the full 90 in seven straight matches and 10 total this season. He's recorded two goals and one assist on the year.
 
Offensively, Eduardo Mustre leads the charge with a team-high six goals and 12 points, ranking tied for second in the American in goals. In 40 career matches, the junior forward has tallied 22 goals across three seasons with the Panthers. Mustre added his first assist of the year on Friday, setting up Travis' decisive strike.
 
Junior striker Pasquale Capriati follows with four goals and three assists (11 points), while senior Joao Domingues is having a career-best season with five assists—four coming in conference play, tied for the league lead. Domingues has registered helpers in three of his last five matches.
 
Johan Helan has appeared in 15 matches (13 starts), contributing three goals and six points, including an 86-minute effort against Charlotte.

Midfielder Leonardo Consoloni has notched four assists this season and has played at least 75 minutes in nine contests, including seven full 90-minute efforts.

Senior Mathys Lefebvre has appeared in all 15 matches (13 starts), totaling 1,164 minutes—the second-most on the team—and has gone the distance in five straight outings.

Defender Alfonso Gilleard-Soriano has started 13 consecutive matches (14 total) and recorded eight full 90-minute appearances, adding one assist.

Senior David Boccuzzo has appeared in all 15 matches with 12 starts, contributing one goal and two assists.
 
In goal, Beltran Fernandez earned the start against Charlotte, stopping three shots en route to his second career shutout and first of the season. His standout performance earned American Conference Weekly Honorable Mention honors.
 
As a team, FIU leads the conference in shots (174), ranks third in points (68), second in assists (26), and fourth in goals (21).

HISTORY WITH UAB
Wednesday marks the 21st all-time meeting between the two programs, with FIU riding a 10-match winning streak over the Blazers dating back to 2016.

In their most recent matchup on Oct. 5, 2024, FIU earned a 3-2 victory, highlighted by a pair of goals from Nicolas Villalobos. The Panthers also defeated UAB, 1-0, in their last trip to Birmingham on Oct. 4, 2023, behind a goal from Eduardo Mustre.

SCOUTING THE BLAZERS
UAB enters Wednesday's contest at 4-7-2 overall and 1-4-1 in American Conference play, sitting eighth in the standings with four total points.

The Blazers are coming off a 3-3 draw at Florida Atlantic on Friday, Oct. 24, rallying from a two-goal deficit to earn a point.
 
Patrik Fagan leads the team offensively with four goals and eight points. Ole Jessen and Lucas Rizzo have each added three goals on the year, while Humphrey Doh anchors the attack with four assists and eight points.

Defender Carson Brice leads the backline with 11 starts and a team-high 1,036 minutes.

In goal, Francisco Raineri has started the last three matches, recording 19 saves in that span, including five at FAU.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers await their seeding in the American Conference Championship, which begins on Friday, Nov. 7 to Saturday, Nov. 15.
