MIAMI – The FIU volleyball program rallied back in dramatic fashion to take down Jacksonville State in a five-set Halloween thriller on Friday evening from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
FIU (15-9, 9-2 CUSA) dropped the first two sets (25-23, 25-17) and faced match point in the third before storming back to win 28-26, dominating set four 25-8, and sealing the comeback with a 15-13 victory in the decisive fifth set. The win marked the Panthers' first five-set victory of the season.
The triumph also secured FIU's ninth win in Conference USA play and seventh straight conference victory—the longest conference win streak in program history.
The Panthers have now won seven of their last eight matches, including seven at home inside the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
Four Panthers registered double-digit kills, led by sophomore
Jillian Huckabey, who notched her third straight double-double with 15 kills, 14 digs, and three assists.
Kira Givans added 15 kills as well, marking her 15th match this season with double-digit kills.
Freshman
Rebekah Pfefferkorn continued her strong play with 11 kills and three blocks, her third consecutive match in double figures. Middle blocker
Magda Stambrowska contributed 10 kills and three blocks in the win.
Setter
Savannah Cook recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 44 assists and 13 digs, while senior libero
Mandi Morioka anchored the defense with a team-high 16 digs and seven assists.
Kambree Rodriguez added 11 digs to round out the back-row effort.
