Women's Soccer Fall in the Quarterfinals of the CUSA Tournament

Senior goalkeeper Odaliana Gomez notched three saves in the contest

LYNCHBURG, Va. – FIU Women's Soccer fell to four-seed Middle Tennessee in overtime, 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Women's Soccer Tournament.

It was a gritty battle from start to finish. The first half saw the Panthers tally five shots with one on goal, while holding the Blue Raiders to five shots and two on goal, both of which were saved by senior goalkeeper Odaliana Gomez, who made her first start of the season.

The teams entered halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

FIU came out strong in the second half, firing seven shots, five of them on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net. The Panthers' defense remained stout, limiting Middle Tennessee to just four shots and one on target.

With neither side able to break through, the match headed into the first of two 10-minute overtime periods, where the first goal would end the game.

With under four minutes remaining in the first overtime, Middle Tennessee found a lane and converted the lone goal of the match, ending FIU's run in the tournament.

Gomez, in her first career start for the Panthers, was a standout performer, recording three saves, including a crucial stop in the 88th minute to keep the match level.

Junior Montelene Dymond led the Panthers with three shots and two on goal, while sixth-year senior Jayden Boelter and redshirt junior Maya Maxwell each added two shots and one on target.
