MIAMI– Men's basketball forward
Eric Dibami has picked up his first CUSA Freshman of the Week honor this season, the league announced Monday.
Dibami had a breakout week over the holidays, averaging over a double-double with 16.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg and shooting 15-21 (.714) from the field as the Panthers beat Trinity and nearly toppled CUSA favorite Liberty in overtime on Sunday.
On Monday against the Eagles, the freshman had 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for his first career double-double, one of eight double-digit scorers for FIU in the win.
On Sunday against preseason favorite Liberty and in his CUSA debut, Dibami had a career-high 21-point game to go along with nine rebounds, leading the team in scoring in the 97-94 overtime loss. It was the first 20-point game of his career, becoming the first Panthers freshman with 21 points and nine rebounds in a game since Jerome Frink on 11/11/12.
For the week, Dibami finished second on the team in scoring. He's the first FIU Freshman of the Week since former athlete
Jayden Brewer did it in 2023.
