MIAMI– Joey Cantens has officially been introduced as the 10th head coach in FIU men's basketball history. Cantens, who played for FIU during the 2005-06 season, had his introductory press conference on Mar. 27, 2026 at the Graham Center Pit.
Accompanied by President Jeanette M. Nuñez and Director of Athletics
Scott Carr, Cantens was introduced in front of his family, former teammates and the FIU community.

Following his remarks to Panther Nation and answering a few questions from attending patrons, Cantens talked to local media in a reception upstairs at the Graham Center.
He returned to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center for a one-on-one interview with the Voice of the Panthers, Corey Brooks.
His final appearance of the day will be at the FIU Softball game against Jax State, where he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and join the broadcast crew in the bottom of the second inning for another interview. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
