MIAMI — FIU's women's tennis program won its fifth-straight match on Tuesday afternoon, winning 4-1 over Boston University at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
The Panthers (7-2) defeated the Terriers (5-6) with four singles victories after dropping the doubles' point. Valery Gynina clinched the match for FIU at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
In singles, Oyinlomo Quadre also won in straight sets at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3, to tie the match score at 1-all. A short time later, Ekaterina Khairutinova finished off her match at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Katerina Mandelikova won at No. 4 singles 7-6, 6-3 for the Panthers' third match point.
In doubles, FIU fell at the Nos. 2 and 3 slots, allowing BU to take a 1-0 lead into the singles competition. The matches were played to completion in doubles and FIU's Quadre and Mandelikova secured a 7-6 win at the top spot.
