MIAMI — FIU's women's tennis program extended its win streak to six-straight on Friday afternoon, downing Penn 5-2 at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
The Panthers (8-2) defeated the Quakers (6-7) by taking the doubles point and four singles matches on Friday. All singles and doubles matches were played to completion as opposed to the normal 'clinch' format.
Katerina Mandelikova and Anja Draskovic secured a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles' point for FIU. Valley Gynina and Dana Baidaulet made quick work of their opponents at No. 3 doubles, winning 6-1 as the first doubles' finishers.
In singles, Oyinlomo Quadre clinched the match and put the Panthers ahead 4-2 with her win at No. 2, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
Ekaterina Khairutinova, ranked 75th, delivered FIU's best victory of the day, down Penn's 77th-ranked Esha Velaga, 6-1, 6-7, 6-2. Gynina added a singles win to her doubles triumph at No. 3, garnering a 6-4, 6-4 win. Aleksandra Simeva played at No. 6 singles and also secured a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-2.
