MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — FIU's women's tennis program secured its second-straight Conference USA (CUSA) sweep and fourth-straight win overall on Saturday afternoon, taking down Middle Tennessee on the road.
The Panthers (6-2) made quick work of the Blue Raiders (8-4), completing a successful weekend in the Nashville-area with 4-0 wins over both Western Kentucky and MTSU. FIU secured the doubles' point with wins at its top-two doubles slots and the Nos. 2, 3 and 5 singles positions.
In doubles, Oyinlomo Quadre and Katerina Mandelikova notched a 6-2 win to get FIU off to a strong start. A short time later, Valery Gynina and Ekaterina Khairutdinova clinched the doubles competiton with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
In singles, Quadre, ranked 91st-nationally, nearly blanked her opponent at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1. Her win put FIU up 2-0 in the match. Valery Gynina won in straight sets as well, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3 singles, putting the Panthers on the brink of winning the match. Petja Drame clinched for FIU with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
