FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FIU baseball program dropped a 13-3 decision to Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday evening at Swanson Stadium in midweek action.
The Panthers (22-14) trailed 2-0 through four innings as the Eagles (15-21) plated runs in the first and fourth frames.
FIU responded in the top of the fifth, pushing across three runs to take a brief 3-2 lead. Freshman Adonys Velez recorded his first career RBI with a single to center field that scored Javier Crespo. Brylan West followed with a two-RBI single through the right side, giving FIU the advantage.
However, the Eagles answered with a five-run bottom half and added three more in the sixth before securing the run-rule victory in the eighth.
Offensively, FIU collected seven hits on the night. Velez led the way with a career-best three-hit performance, including his first career hit and RBI. West, Austin Dearing had two hits, while Ryan Hunter, Andrew Ildefonso, and Alex Ulloa each added a hit.
On the mound, David Eckaus made the start and allowed one earned run over two innings while striking out one. Tracen Cameron struck out two over two innings of relief. Julian Mlodzinski, Bryce Greene, Tristan Dietrich, Bryce Turner, Shane Tucker, and Imarion Stanberry all saw action out of the bullpen, with Tucker striking out two.
