Baseball Heads to Boca Raton For a Midweek Clash at Florida Atlantic

MIAMI – The FIU baseball program looks to continue its momentum as it travels to Boca Raton to take on the Florida Atlantic Owls on Tuesday night at FAU Baseball Stadium.

FIU (26-18, 9-8 CUSA) enters the matchup on a four-game winning streak, including a crucial home sweep over No. 17 Western Kentucky last weekend. The series marked FIU's first sweep of a ranked opponent since 2016 (No. 13 Southern Miss) and its first home conference sweep since 2017, also against Western Kentucky.
 
The streak also features a thrilling walk-off win over Miami on Wednesday, April 23. FIU has secured 22 home wins — the most since 2014.
 
Tuesday's game will be available exclusively on the FIU Athletics Audio Experience with Kevin Barral and Corey Brooks on the call.
 
FIU's offense is clicking, ranking fifth in Conference USA with a .282 team batting average. The Panthers sit third in runs scored (312) and fifth in total hits (411). They've showcased their power with 59 home runs, ranking second in the conference and 50th nationally.
 
FIU also broke the program's single-season record for hit-by-pitches (104), surpassing the previous mark set in 2017. That total ranks seventh nationally.
 
Senior slugger Kishon Frett has fueled the offensive fire, leading the team in home runs (17), RBIs (34), triples (2), OPS (1.152), and slugging percentage (.694). His 17 homers lead Conference USA and rank sixth nationally. Frett delivered a walk-off three-run blast in extra innings on Sunday, April 27, securing the sweep and marking his 10th home run in league play. He now ranks among the top five in FIU history for single-season homers and holds the program record for hit-by-pitches in a season (22).
 
Brylan West has been a consistent force, hitting .331 across 43 games to lead the team in hits (57) and sitting second in total bases (93). West had three hits over the weekend, including a solo home run on April 27. He's reached base in 19 of his last 20 games and is batting .304 over his past five.
 
Andrew Ildefonso has been an RBI machine, driving in eight runs over his last five games while batting .316 in that span. The redshirt freshman is hitting .333 (team-best) with a 1.003 OPS and five home runs this season.
 
Senior Alex Ulloa is the only Panther to start all 44 games this year, leading the team in doubles (10) and ranking second in RBIs (34). Ulloa crushed two home runs with four RBIs in the series against Western Kentucky.
 
Brendan Roney has been on fire, collecting seven hits over his past four games, including a three-hit performance against Western Kentucky. He's now hitting .314 on the season.
 
Freshman Cole Cleveland rides a six-game hitting streak, tallying eight hits and four RBIs in that span while raising his season average to .274.
 
FIU's pitching staff has racked up 430 strikeouts — most in CUSA and 17th nationally — reaching double-digit Ks in 22 games this season.
 
Easton Marks continues to lead the rotation, boasting a 3.40 ERA, a team-best 55.2 innings pitched, and 63 strikeouts. He delivered 6.2 innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts on Friday, April 25.
 
Juan Villarreal has fanned 56 batters in 41.2 innings, posting a 6-2 record with three saves. He pitched two scoreless innings in relief against Miami and secured the save against Western Kentucky.
 
Kevin Martin has been reliable out of the bullpen, surrendering just four earned runs over his last 10.2 innings. He pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts against Western Kentucky.
 
Logan Runde and Jaydon Bishop have provided depth, with Runde making 15 appearances (10 starts) and Bishop allowing just three earned runs in his last 12.1 innings.
 
Jarek Woodward has also contributed with a 4.61 ERA across multiple outings.
 
HISTORY VS FLORIDA ATLANTIC
 
Tuesday marks the 142nd all-time meeting between FIU and FAU, a rivalry that dates back to 1981.

Earlier this season, the Panthers took one of three games from the Owls, winning the series opener on March 7.
 
SCOUTING FLORIDA ATLANTIC
 
FAU enters Tuesday's matchup with a 28-15 record (10-8 AAC) after dropping a series to Charlotte last weekend. The Owls are hitting .297 as a team with five players batting over .300.
 
Jake Duer leads FAU with a .428 batting average and 59 hits, while Marshall Lipsey has launched 10 home runs with 33 RBIs. John Martinez adds 12 doubles and a .325 average.
 
Nick Wimberly will make his first start of the season for FAU, having pitched 6.2 innings across six appearances with a 2.70 ERA. In the bullpen, Max Martzolf owns a 3.14 ERA across 23 appearances, and closer MJ Bollinger has nine saves with a 1.93 ERA over 32.2 innings.
