Baseball Falls in Midweek Contest at Florida Atlantic

Frett hit his team-leading 18th homer of the season

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The FIU baseball program dropped a 5-2 decision to Florida Atlantic on Tuesday evening at FAU Baseball Stadium, as the Owls claimed the season series, three games to one.

FIU (26-19) fell behind early but cut the deficit to one in the fourth inning before FAU (29-15) pulled away with runs in the middle frames.

The Owls struck first in the second inning with an RBI single to center by Nick Romano, followed by a sacrifice fly in the third to make it 2-0. FIU's Hector Candelas kept it close with a highlight-reel grab in right-center, robbing a potential two-run homer.

In the fourth, Kishon Frett crushed his 18th home run of the season — a solo shot to deep left — moving him into a tie for fourth all-time in program history alongside Edwin Rios (2015). Frett currently leads Conference USA and ranks second nationally in home runs.

FAU responded with an RBI groundout in the fifth and added two more runs in the sixth to stretch the lead to 5-1.

FIU added a run in the ninth as Cole Cleveland tallied a sacrfice fly, but wasn't enough in the 5-2 loss.

Ryan Reyerson made his first career start for FIU, tossing 1.1 innings and allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out two. Bryce Greene followed with 1.2 scoreless innings and two punchouts. Tristan Dietrich added two innings of one-run relief, and Bryce Turner delivered two no-hit frames with a pair of strikeouts. Shane Tucker worked an clean eighth with two punchouts.

FIU totaled six hits on the night, led by Frett's two-hit performance, including a home run and a double — his 14th multi-hit game of the year. Alex Ulloa also notched a two-hit effort, his 18th multi-game of the season. Candelas, Marc Hersh, and Kareh Valentin each added a hit.
