Baseball Drops Series Finale at No. 20 Dallas Baptist

Ildefonso added with a two-run homer

DALLAS, Texas – The FIU baseball program fell in the series finale against No. 20 Dallas Baptist, 9-3, on Sunday afternoon at Horner Ballpark.

The Panthers (26-22, 9-11 CUSA) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead through the first two innings, but the Patriots (33-13, 16-5 CUSA) rallied back with to claim the series sweep.

FIU opened the scoring in the top of the first when Brylan West led off with a single, followed by Andrew Ildefonso's sixth home run of the season — a deep shot to left field — giving the Panthers a 2-0 advantage. In the second inning, Brendan Roney added to the lead with his third homer of the year, pushing the score to 3-0.

Dallas Baptist responded with a two-run single in the bottom of the second, then took the lead in the third inning with an RBI double and a run-scoring single to make it 4-3. The Patriots added one run in the fifth and pulled away in the eighth, tacking on four more to seal the victory.

On the mound, Jaydon Bishop made his second career start, tossing two innings with two strikeouts and two earned runs. Kevin Martin was tagged with the loss, allowing the go-ahead run while striking out four over two innings. Juan Villarreal logged 3.1 innings of relief with one strikeout and four earned runs, while Logan Runde recorded two outs, giving up one run and striking out one.

At the plate, FIU collected five hits. Ildefonso finished with two hits and two RBIs, while West reached base twice. Austin Dearing and Roney each chipped in a hit, and Kishon Frett extended his on-base streak to 31 games with a walk.

FIU takes on Miami in the series finale on Wednesday, May 7 at 6 p.m. from Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. It will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
