MIAMI – FIU baseball pitchers
Easton Marks and
Owen Puk were selected in the 2025 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, as announced Monday evening.
Puk was taken in the 18th round (531st overall) by the Washington Nationals, while Marks was selected by his hometown team, the Colorado Rockies, in the 19th round (557th overall).
This marks the first time since 2022 that FIU has had players selected in the MLB Draft and the most draftees for the program since 2019, when five Panthers were picked. FIU has now had at least one player selected in 12 of the past 14 years.
"I'm incredibly proud of Owen and Easton for being selected in the MLB Draft. Hearing your name called is something every young ballplayer dreams of, and it's a special moment for both of them," said FIU HC
Rich Witten. "They've set the standard for what it means to be a Panther—not just with their talent, but with their commitment to development, the work they put in behind the scenes, and the way they carried themselves on and off the mound. This is a well-deserved opportunity, and I couldn't be happier for two outstanding representatives of FIU Baseball."
Marks made an immediate impact in his first year in Miami, earning All-Conference USA First Team honors. The Arapahoe, Colo., native led the team with 67 innings pitched and 72 strikeouts over 14 starts while posting a 3.49 ERA.
He delivered four outings of six or more innings, including a pair of seven-inning performances against Kennesaw State (April 17) and Liberty (May 9). Marks matched his season-high with nine strikeouts against Delaware on Feb. 22. He becomes the first Panther pitcher to earn First Team All-CUSA recognition since Logan Allen in 2019.
Puk wrapped up his fourth season with the Panthers by posting a career year in 2025. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native made 13 appearances with 12 starts, tallying 51 strikeouts over 40.1 innings while holding opposing batters to a .224 average. The right-hander recorded career highs in both innings pitched and strikeouts. He notched a career-best nine strikeouts against New Mexico State on April 12 and fired five shutout innings with eight strikeouts on the road at Middle Tennessee on March 30.
Puk also turned in standout performances with five innings of one-hit ball against Stonehill in his season debut in the 6-5 win on Feb. 15 and four scoreless frames at Bethune-Cookman on March 25. Over his four-year career, he totaled 95 strikeouts across 79.2 innings.
