MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The FIU men's soccer program earned a gritty 1-0 road victory at Memphis to open American Conference play on Friday night.
The win marked the Panthers' second of the season, their first on the road in 2025, and extended their unbeaten streak against the Tigers to six straight matches. It also secured FIU's first clean sheet since a 1-0 triumph over Florida Atlantic in the American Conference First Round on Nov. 8, 2024.
FIU struck early in the 19th minute when senior
David Boccuzzo netted his first career goal in Blue & Gold, finishing a service from Joao Domingues to put the Panthers ahead 1-0 at halftime.
The Panthers' back line locked in during the second half, limiting Memphis to just seven shots and none on target. FIU held the Tigers to nine total shots on the night while earning its first shutout of the season.
Goalkeeper
Nigel Van Haveren anchored the defense with two saves in the second half, recording his first clean sheet of the year and the fourth of his career.
Offensively,
Alejandro Nasato paced the attack with three shots, while
Pasquale Capriati and
Johan Helan each added two.
Leonardo Consoloni, Helan,
Mathys Lefebvre,
Diego Sanchez,
Alfonso Gilleard-Soriano, and
Owen Travis all logged 90 minutes on the pitch.
