BOCA RATON, Fla. – The FIU men's soccer program dropped a 2-0 decision to Florida Atlantic on Friday night at FAU Soccer Stadium.
FIU (4-3-2, 2-1 American) battled through a scoreless first half, highlighted by two saves from goalkeeper
Nigel Van Haveren to keep the Owls off the board.
Florida Atlantic broke through in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick and added an insurance goal in the 89th minute to seal the result.
The Panthers generated 11 shots on the night, with four on target. Defender
Alfonso Gilleard-Soriano led the effort with three attempts, including two on frame, while
Pasquale Capriati added a pair of shots.
Between the posts, Van Haveren finished with four saves, bringing his season total to 28, most in the conference.
Mathys Lefebvre,
Owen Travis, and
Diego Sanchez each logged a full 90 minutes, while
Eduardo Mustre contributed 44 minutes off the bench.
