MIAMI – The FIU volleyball team battled to the wire in its second match of the 305 Challenge but came up just short in a five-set loss to Drake on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Kira Givens led the Panthers with 17 kills in today's match. Junior
Courtney O'Brien added 11 kills, and junior
Emma Beritech finished with nine. Graduate student
Sofie Vogel anchored the defense at the net with a season-high four blocks.
Senior setter
Mandi Morioka tallied 18 digs, while
Jillian Huckabey posted a season-best 10 digs.
Savannah Cook recorded 29 assists and added seven digs.
The Panthers fell by set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 24-26, 25-20 and 15-9. FIU nearly swung the momentum in the third set with 16 kills and 46 assists, but the Bulldogs rallied to secure the win and improve to a total of three wins this season.
