DENTON, Texas — FIU's women's tennis team fell 4-1 to North Texas on Sunday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex, closing out a two-match road swing following Saturday's win over Texas State.
The Panthers (2-4) fell to the Mean Green, dropping the doubles point and three completed singles matches on Courts 2, 5 and 6.
Katerina Mandelikova secured the lone point for FIU with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory on Court 1, briefly evening the match at 1-1.
FIU struck first in doubles play as Mandelikova and
Viktorie Hazmukova earned a 6-3 win on Court 1 with a steady performance. North Texas, however, responded with victories on Courts 2 and 3 to claim the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Mandelikova was again first to complete her match in singles, cruising to her straight-set win on Court 1 to tie the match at 1-all. The Mean Green answered with wins on Courts 6, 5 and 2 to secure the 4-1 decision.
Vittoria Baccino's match on Court 3 went unfinished with the score at 6-2, 2-6, 3-1 in the third set, while
Aleksandra Simeva's match on Court 4 was halted after splitting the first two sets, 5-7, 6-1.
