MIAMI — FIU's women's tennis team secured a 4-1 victory over Boston University on Tuesday afternoon at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
The Panthers (3-4) came out with a strong performance in their victory over the Terriers. FIU earned the doubles point and secured singles victories at Nos. 1, 2, and 5 to clinch the four points needed for the win.
In doubles,
Katerina Mandelikova and
Viktorie Hazmukova opened the scoring with a 6-3 win at No. 1.
Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn and
Vittoria Baccino followed with a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position, securing the doubles point to give FIU a 1-0 lead. The No. 2 doubles pair of
Jelena Vico and
Aleksandra Simeva held a 5-3 advantage when the point was clinched, sending the teams into singles play.
Mandelikova extended the Panthers lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to make it 2-0. Araoz-Gosn added another point shortly after with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5. With FIU leading 3-0, Boston University picked up its lone point with a straight set win on Court 4.
Jelena Vico then sealed the match for the Panthers, earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory to secure the 4-1 result.
