MIAMI – The FIU women's tennis team fell 4-3 to the James Madison Dukes on Monday afternoon at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
FIU (3-6) fell behind 2-0 early after dropping the doubles point and a singles match on Court 2. The Panthers rallied with wins from Katerina Mandelikova on Court 2 (6-4, 6-4) and Viktorie Hazmukova on Court 6 (7-6, 6-1), tying the match at 2-2.
In a tightly contested battle, James Madison regained the lead on Court 3, but Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn responded with a 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 4, evening the match at 3-3.
It all came down to Court 5, where the match was decided in a thrilling third-set tiebreak. Ultimately, the Dukes edged out the Panthers, 4-3, in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) finale.
