MIAMI – The FIU baseball program fell to the Miami Hurricanes, 10-3, Wednesday night at FIU Baseball Stadium.
FIU (7-15) battled back to tie the game after an early deficit, but Miami responded with seven unanswered runs to secure the midweek victory.
The Hurricanes struck first in the opening inning on a three-run home run by Derek Williams to take an early 3-0 lead.
FIU answered in the bottom half as
Cooper Rasmussen led off the inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the season, extending his hitting streak to seven games.
The Panthers continued to chip away, as
Andrew Ildefonso lifted a sacrifice fly to score Rasmussen in the third, cutting the deficit to 3-2. FIU evened the score in the fourth when
Trey Freeman delivered an RBI single to right field to make it 3-3.
Miami regained control in the fifth, plating three runs on a two-run single by Daniel Cuvet and an RBI double from Alex Sosa to take a 6-3 advantage. The Hurricanes added another run in the sixth before scoring three more in the eighth to seal the 10-3 win.
On the mound,
Quin McManmon made the start, allowing three earned runs over two innings.
Jeremy Urena was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs over 2.2 innings while striking out three.
Jarek Woodward worked 2.1 innings, allowing one run, while
Tracen Cameron gave up three runs in one inning of relief.
Cooper Foster closed the game with a scoreless inning, striking out the side.
Offensively, FIU totaled eight hits, with
Cole Cleveland and Freeman each recording multi-hit performances.
Aidan Cohall added his team-leading 13th double of the season, while Ildefonso and
Aris Rivera each contributed a hit.
