MIAMI – FIU baseball program dropped the series finale to Sam Houston, 7-1, on Sunday afternoon at FIU Baseball Stadium.
FIU (8-17, 1-5 CUSA) fell behind early as the Bearkats plated a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run single.
The Panthers responded in the third, trimming the deficit to 2-1 as Luca Reyes drove in Aidan Cohall on a groundout.
Sam Houston added insurance in the seventh with a solo home run before breaking the game open with a four-run eighth inning to secure the series-clinching victory.
On the mound, Julian Mlodzinski delivered a strong outing, tossing a career-high 6.2 innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out four, matching a career best. Jarek Woodward, Quin McManmon, and Jeremy Urena each saw action out of the bullpen, while Cooper Foster added a scoreless inning.
Offensively, FIU recorded four hits, with Cohall, Trey Freeman, Cooper Rasmussen, and Aris Rivera each contributing. Rasmussen extended his hitting streak to 10 games in the loss.
