ABILENE, Texas – Women's basketball sees their season end in the second round of the WNIT in a 77-66 loss to Abilene Christian on Tuesday evening.
The game was close for the majority of the contest, with the first quarter ending in a 19-19 tie. Fantasia James ended with six in the frame, and capped off her 2025-26 season in double-figures with 15 points on 5-9 shooting, adding on seven rebounds, one block and one steal.
FIU kept it close in the second quarter as well, stymying every ACU run with one of their own, including four points in 10 seconds at the end of the first half to end the second quarter down just two, 34-32.
The Panthers matched the Wildcats bucket-for-bucket in the third quarter, scoring 21 points to Abilene Christian's 22. As she has been all year, Rhema Collins was a star with 10 points in the penultimate frame. The CUSA Player of the Year ended her season with 25 points, nine rebounds and two assists. FIU went into the fourth quarter down 56-53.
The Panthers could not match the ACU runs in the back half of the fourth quarter, leading to the FIU loss.
A historic season, the 2025-26 FIU women's basketball team saw their second 20-win season in three years, the most Conference USA wins in program history, as well as the highest seeding in the CUSA tournament in program history.
