MIAMI — FIU's softball program dropped its non-conference tilt with Florida Atlantic on Wednesday evening, 10-2, at Baptist Health Stadium.
The Panthers (23-9) suffered just their third home defeat of the season on Wednesday night, falling to in-state rival Florida Atlantic (22-11) at home. FIU trailed 2-0 early, but tied the game on a two-run homer from Leah Clark in the bottom of the first. From there, the Owls pushed across eight unanswered runs and allowed just two hits the rest of the way.
Kally Meredith, Sammy Zelenka and Clark accounted for FIU's three hits in the game. In the circle, Kennedy Byrd (7-4) gave up four earned runs on four hits in 4.1 innings, suffering the loss. Megan Villazon and Megan Kruger both pitched in relief, allowing six combined runs in the final 2.2 innings.
