JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — FIU's women's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 56 North Florida on Friday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex, opening a two-match road swing.
The Panthers (6-8) dropped the doubles point and three completed singles matches on Courts 2, 5, and 6.
Vittoria Baccino secured FIU's lone point with a dominant 6-4, 6-2 victory on Court 3.
North Florida took an early 1-0 lead, winning doubles matches on Courts 1 and 2. On Court 3, the duo of
Aleksandra Simeva and
Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn led 4-2 before play was halted as the Ospreys clinched the doubles point.
Entering singles with the advantage, North Florida recorded the first finish on Court 2. Baccino quickly answered on Court 3 with her straight-sets win, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Ospreys ultimately secured victories on Courts 5 and 6 to clinch the 4-1 match.
Katerina Mandelikova's match on Court 1 went unfinished at 6-2, 5-7, 4-1 in the third set, while Araoz-Gosn's match on Court 4 was halted at 6-4, 0-6, 2-0.
