BOCA RATON, Fla. – The FIU baseball program dropped the weekend finale to Florida Atlantic, 7-3, Sunday afternoon at FAU Baseball Stadium.
Florida Atlantic struck first with a run in the opening inning before breaking the game open with a four-run fifth and adding two more in the sixth to secure the series sweep.
FIU trimmed the deficit with a three-run eighth inning. Cole Cleveland launched his first home run of the season to right field, while Andrew Ildefonso continued his strong weekend at the plate with a two-run double to make it 7-3. He now has five hits in his last two games, coming off a four-hit performance Saturday evening vs the Owls.
The Owls opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first. In the fifth, three consecutive RBI singles and a fielder's choice pushed the lead to 5-0. Florida Atlantic added a pair of RBI hits in the sixth to extend the advantage to 7-0.
On the mound, Julian Mlodzinski made his third start of the season, allowing just one earned run across a career-high four innings. Jeremy Urena was tagged for four earned runs in 0.1 inning of relief, while Tracen Cameron surrendered two runs over 1.2 innings. Cooper Foster closed the game with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Offensively, FIU recorded 10 hits as a team, led by two-hit performances from Aidan Cohall and Mario Trivella. Cleveland, Trey Freeman and Cooper Rasmussen each added a hit in the loss.
