JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – FIU's baseball program dropped a 13-1 decision in seven innings to Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium in Conference USA (CUSA) play.
FIU (13-25, 5-12 CUSA) struck first in the opening inning. Cooper Rasmussen and Andrew Ildefonso reached base to set the table for Mario Trivella, who delivered an RBI single to left field for his team-leading 31st RBI of the season, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Jacksonville State quickly answered in the bottom of the first to tie the game before erupting for 12 unanswered runs from the second through the sixth inning to secure the run-rule victory.
On the mound, Enrique Sierra took the loss after allowing six earned runs over two innings. George Adams followed with two innings, surrendering three earned runs. Matthew DelVecchio and Rene Lastres also saw action in relief, while Tracen Cameron worked the sixth inning.
Offensively, Ildefonso paced FIU with a two-hit performance, marking his 10th multi-hit game of the season. Trivella and Caden Sammler each added a hit, while Rasmussen extended his on-base streak to 23 games after being hit by a pitch.
