OMAHA, Neb. – FIU men's soccer closed out its season-opening road trip Sunday evening, playing Omaha to a scoreless draw at Caniglia Field.
The Panthers (0-1-1) outshot the Mavericks, 10-5, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Both teams battled through a defensive first half, combining for just three shots over the opening 45 minutes.
FIU picked up the pressure in the second half, recording nine shots while Omaha generated two. The Panthers continued to create scoring opportunities, including a header from
Alfonso Gilleard-Soriano in the 64th minute and shots on goal from
Leonardo Consoloni in the 67th and
Martin Piedeleu in the 76th.
Despite the late push, neither side was able to break through as the Panthers earned their first draw of the 2026 season.
Santi Possu and Piedeleu led FIU with two shots apiece, with each recording one shot on goal.
Finn Bauens made his first start as a Panther and played all 90 minutes alongside Consoloni, Possu and
Mateo Stickler.
In goal,
Nigel Van Haveren recorded three saves to secure his first clean sheet of the season and the ninth of his career.
