Swim & Dive Opens Season at the TYR Fall Classic

The meet runs from Oct. 2 at 5 PM and Oct. 3 at 10 AM

MIAMI –  FIU swimming & diving program begins the 2026-27 campaign this weekend as the Panthers host the annual TYR Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3.

The Doral Aquatic Center will once again serve as the home site for FIU this season. All home meets are free to attend and offer complimentary parking. The facility is located at 3005 NW 92nd Ave., Doral, FL 33172.
 
Each session will feature nine events, with each team allowed to enter nine swimmers and two divers.
 
The Panthers will welcome six programs to Doral for the invitational, including three conference opponents in FGCU, Florida Atlantic and East Carolina, along with Keiser, which has won back-to-back NAIA Championships, Tulane and St. Thomas (Fla.).
 
Under the direction of head coach Randy Horner, who enters his 17th season at the helm, FIU has captured nine conference championships during his tenure. The Panthers return 12 letterwinners while welcoming 14 newcomers for the 2026-27 season. Senior Diana Santamaria anchors the Panthers as a team captain after earning four medals at the 2026 American Conference Championships, including a gold medal as part of FIU's 200 medley relay team. Senior Stella Warborn will also be a key contributor in the breaststroke events.
 
Frida Stretre Løbersli leads the upperclassmen after competing at the 2026 NCAA Championships and earning three medals at the American Conference Championships. Newcomer Gaya Savran joins FIU from Wagner as a butterfly specialist after winning five medals at the 2026 Northeast Conference Championships.
 
Junior Sally Olsson adds depth to the breaststroke group, while Amelia Brown joins the Panthers from Indian River State College as a freestyle and backstroke swimmer. Other notable returners include sophomores Olivia Matson, Carla Mailharrou and Faustine Mercier.
 
FIU welcomes 10 freshmen to the program, including Maria Alvestad, Helene Gonzalez, Sabrina Ledwith, Carolyn Levy-Powell, Livia Bella Morganti, Mercyann Najera, Sofia Nikitenko, Amiah Sparks and Timea Urogi

On the diving boards, diving coach Alejandra Fuentes enters her first season at FIU after spending the previous two seasons as the head coach at St. Bonaventure. Veterans Kristina Keenan and Sydney Soto return for their fourth seasons with the Panthers. Transfer Dhavgely Mendoza joins FIU from St. Bonaventure after earning Atlantic 10 Diver of the Year honors in 2026. Anna Bunnell also joins the Panthers as a transfer from Southern Indiana after earning All-Summit League honors in 2026.
 
Adyson Downey and Sofia Torstensson return for the upcoming season, while freshman Rebecca Vega joins the diving program.

Looking Back
Last season, FIU finished third overall at the annual TYR Fall Classic, totaling 445 points while recording 25 top-three finishes.

We're International, So International
FIU's roster embodies the program's international identity, featuring swimmers and divers representing 14 different countries.
 
The Panthers' international roster includes student-athletes from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Italy, Israel, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Uruguay, the United States and Venezuela.

Up Next
FIU prepares for the Dual-A-Pool-Ooza on Friday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. from University of Miami and Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. and at 3 p.m. at the Doral Aquatic Center. Liberty, Miami, Vanderbilt will compete alongside FIU in the competition.
