Biography

2009 (Redshirt Sophomore): Made a successful transition to running back, averaging a team-best 4.2 yards per carry on 63 attempts… racked up 264 rushing yards and 93 receiving yards… ran the “wildcat” formation for the Panthers, putting a new and successful wrinkle in the FIU offensive attack….scored six rushing touchdowns and one receiving…carried twice for nine yards against Troy (10/17) and caught three balls for 34 yards and one touchdown… had four carries for 17 yards and two receptions for 25 yards against Arkansas State (10/24)… carried seven times for 23 yards and a score against Louisiana (10/31), while catching one pass for 14 yards… had a breakout game against Middle Tennessee (11/14), carrying 19 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns… followed that game with an 82 yard, two touchdown performance against North Texas (11/14)… had 13 carries for 26 yards against Florida (11/21)… at one point scored six-consecutive touchdowns, one against Louisiana , three against MTSU and two against North Texas.

2008 (Sophomore): Lost the season to a knee injury and was redshirted.

2007 (Freshman): Finished fourth on the team in rushing with 14 carries for 81 yards (5.8 avg.)...caught eight passes for 83 yards (10.2 avg.)...played in all 12 games and totaled 164 all-purpose yards...also added three tackles on special teams...vs. North Texas (12/1): Carried the ball a season-high three times for 16 yardsa nd caught one pass for a season-long 23 yards on FIU’s first scoring drive of the game...vs. FAU (11/24): Ran the ball twice for 15 yards and made one tackle on special teams...vs. UL (11/17): Made two tackles on special teams...at Arkansas State (11/3): Played but did not have any carries or receptions...at Arkansas (10/27): Played but did not have any carries or receptions...at ULM (10/20): Carried the ball twice for five yards...vs. Troy (10/6): Had one carry for one yard and caught one pass for 19 yards...at Middle Tennessee (9/29): Set career marks with five receptions for 30 yards and ran the ball twice for 14 yards...at Kansas (9/22): Ran for a season-high 23 yards, including a 22-yard run in the first quarter...also made his first career reception, good for 11 yards...at Miami (9/15): Played but did not have any carries or receptions...vs. Maryland (9/8): Had the first two carries of his career and rushed for seven yards...at Penn State (9/1): Made his collegiate debut but did not have any carries or receptions.

Haines City High School: Grew into the Haines City triple-option offense as its quarterback in his last two seasons after playing the running back position as a sophomore when he led the Hornets with 705 yards rushing...passed for 410 yards and four touchdowns while carrying the ball 124 times for 950 yards, an average of 95.1 yards per game, and 10 touchdowns...also returned two punts for 68 total yards...led Haines City in scoring (64 points), rushing and total offense (128.1 yards per game).

Personal: Born December 31, 1987...son of Derrick and Mellissicia Spillman...has seven siblings...played football and ran track all four years of high school.
