Biography

As a Senior (2013): Named to the 2012-13 SBC Academic Honor Roll for having a 3.0-3.49 GPA…Made 52 of his 53 starts in right field for the Panthers…Tallied 10 multi-hit games during the 2013 season…Collected six hits in the first three games of the season vs. Stony Brook…Went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run in the opener against the Seawolves (2/16)…Followed that up with a 3-for-4 effort with one double and an RBI in the second game of the doubleheader (2/16)…Hit his first home run of the season vs. Manhattan (2/23)…Recorded back-to-back two-hit games vs. Texas Tech (2/26) and Ole Miss (3/1), where he hit his second homer of the season vs. the Rebels…Went deep and drove in two runs at Florida Atlantic (3/16)…Tallied two hits in back-to-back games at South Alabama on April 5 and April 6…Put together a six-game hitting streak extending from April 3 to April 20, which included a two-hit outing vs. Bethune Cookman (4/16)…Went 2-for-2 with a run scored in the series opener at Troy (5/3)…Drove in a run and tripled in a 2-for-4 performance against Jacksonville (5/7)…Stole a base in back-to-back games vs. Louisiana (5/22) and UALR (5/23) in the SBC Tournament.

As a Junior (2012): Named to the 2011-12 SBC Academic Honor Roll for having a 3.0-3.49 GPA… One of the most reliable bats in the lineup, Burns finished second on the team with a .317 (70-221) average in 57 games while starting 56… Appeared on ESPN Top-10 plays as the No. 8 play of the night when he flipped over the wall in foul territory to make a catch against Brown (3/4)… Named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team after hitting .357 (5-14) with five RBI in the conference tournament… Won the FIU baseball Hustle Award… Finished with a team-high nine triples and 48 RBI while being ranked No. 3 in the NCAA in that category… Finished second on the team in runs scored (45), total bases (109), at bats (221), hits (70), steal attempts (13) game starts (56) and stolen bases (9)… Had 20 multi-hit games including seven three-hit games and a four-hit game… Third on the team with 11 multi-RBI games and drove in four runs twice during the season… Played all 56 games in right field and split time between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd spots in the lineup… Did the majority of his damage in the two-hole, hitting .348 in 22 games… He’s currently riding a seven-game hitting streak going into the 2013 season.

Prior to FIU: Comes to FIU from Howard College in Texas where he hit .419 (88-for-210) with 74 runs, 74 RBI and 12 home runs, while stealing 32 bases as a sophomore… Two-time All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference Champion … Hit .394 (69-of-175) with 12 home runs, 64 runs scored, 53 RBI, 11 doubles and seven triples as a freshman… Two-time member of the All-WJCAC First Team… Made the Presidents List at Howard in the 2010-11 academic year with a 4.0 GPA… Attended Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas, from 2004-08… Played baseball under Eugene Wier and football under Chuck Wells… Named first team all-district 5-5A and offensive MVP in baseball and first team all-district 5-5A wide receiver as a senior… Recruited out of high school by Auburn, Rice, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.
