Kasey Smith is in his second season as a defensive graduate assistant coach for the Panthers in 2015.
Smith spent two seasons season volunteering for the football coaching staff during the 2012-13 campaigns. The former FIU defensive lineman first spent his senior season as a coaching intern in 2012.
Smith was a part of film evaluation, special teams scouting reports and scouting formations, assisted in the strength and conditioning department, worked with the defensive line and creating various game day personnel reports.
He coached in high school as a student assistant at Daytona Beach Seabreeze High School (2007-08), defensive coordinator and assistant defensive line coach for the Boynton Beach High School Junior Varsity (2011) and Boynton Beach varsity (2012).
As a player at FIU, Smith saw action in 25 games from 2009-11, with five starts coming in 2010. He played in both of the team’s bowl games in 2010 and 2011.
As a student at Seabreeze, Smith was named to the FSWA 4A All-State Second Team, chosen Volusia County Defensive Player of the Year, ranked second on the team with 65 tackles and helped the team to an undefeated regular season and a regional playoff appearance. After his senior year, the former team captain was named the East Defensive MVP of the Central Florida All-Star Game.
Smith received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from FIU in 2012.
