Ryan Jirgl enters his first season as a defensive graduate assistant coach for the Panthers in 2015.

Prior to arriving at FIU, Jirgl spent one season at South Dakota where he coached safeties. Before joining the Coyote’s staff, Jirgl was coaching linebackers and special teams for two seasons at Albright College, a Division III program in Pennsylvania. He helped Albright to back-to-back 8-3 seasons.

Prior to coaching at Albright, Jirgl was a two-year starter at safety for Winona State. After graduating from Winona State, Jirgl spent the 2011 season coaching the secondary at The Academy of Holy Angels High School in Richfield, Minn.

Jirgl graduated from Winona State University in 2010 with a degree in business administration. He played for four years there, including two as a starter at strong safety. Winona State won the Northern Sun Conference in 2007 and 2010, while making NCAA tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007.

Jirgl earned All-Conference honors after a senior season in which he led his team in tackles (75), interceptions (four), forced fumbles (two) and recovered fumbles (two). He eclipsed 150 tackles for his career.
