2004 (Junior): Recipient of the team's Academic Excellence Award for the third-straight season and voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) University Division Football Academic All-District III team...started all 10 games at left guard... assisted FIU in attaining a ranking of No. 42 nationally in total offense (382.78 ypg) and 54th in scoring (27.89)...helped to allow only nine sacks of the quarterback...graded out at 80-85-percent all season... a main reason why running back Rashod Smith to become the first 1,000-yard rusher in school history.
2003 (Sophomore): Team co-captain who was given the team’s postseason award for Academic Excellence after being a mainstay on the Dean’s List...a team leader both on the field and in the locker room...greatly respected by his teammates and the coaching staff...played in 11 games, starting 10 at left guard...saw action on 592 snaps and graded out at 81-percent...Dean’s List honoree in the fall of 2003 and spring 2004.
2002 (Freshman): Team co-captain who saw action on 561 plays and was called for just three penalties, grading out at 79 percent...winner of the team's Academic Excellence Award.
St. Thomas Aquinas High School: An all-county and honorable mention all-state lineman who was instrumental in Raiders’ 1999 state championship and 2000 state runner-up finishes for head coach George Smith...state qualifier and two-time all-county honoree in the shot put in track and field with a personal-best toss of 52’6.50”...voted the team’s Most Valuable Field Event Performer award...numerous academic awards include Bright Futures Scholar, Junior Orange Bowl Committee’s Scholar Athlete for Class 4A and the Bishop John J. O’Leary Scholar-Athlete Award...named to the Principal’s Honor Roll for his entire junior and senior years and to the Spanish Honor Society.
Personal: Born August 30, 1983...chose FIU over interest shown by Dartmouth, Columbia, Georgetown, South Florida and Holy Cross...son of Edward and Debbie Wenger...earned his degree with summa cum laude honors in Criminal Justice in 2004 and currently has a 4.0 grade point average while working on his master's degree in Criminal Justice.
