Biography

Prior to FIU: Competed for three seasons at the University of Indiana before transferring to FIU… he appeared in 10 games in 2021 as a wide receiver and on special teams… also, an effective kick returner, Hewitt averaged 22.6 yards per kickoff return last season, including a long of 72 yards vs. Idaho.
 
2021 (Indiana): Appeared in 10 games... saw time on special teams at Iowa (9/4)... returned two kickoffs for an average of 45.5 yards per return against Idaho (9/11)... long return was for 72 yards... returned one kickoff for 15 yards versus Cincinnati (9/18)... caught four passes for 41 at Western Kentucky (9/25)... returned three kickoffs for an average of 18.7 yards per return... caught one pass for minus-5 yards at Penn State (10/2)... returned one kickoff for 13 yard ... returned two kickoffs of 33 yards against Ohio State (10/23)... long return was 17 yards... carried once for six yards... caught both targets for three yards at Maryland (10/30)... caught lone target for eight yards at Michigan (11/6)... made one tackle on punt coverage.
 
2020 (Indiana): Caught five balls for 68 yards... returned four kickoffs for 59 yards... played in all eight games... made his first career reception for 14 yards in the season-opening win over No. 8 Penn State (10/24)... posted a career-long catch of 32 yards in the No. 23 Michigan victory (11/7)... added two grabs for 21 yards in the win at No. 16 Wisconsin (12/5).
 
2019 (Indiana): Did not see any game action in 2019... suffered an ACL injury in June.
 
2018 (Indiana): Redshirted the 2018 season... scout team player of the week (Penn State)... enrolled in spring classes and participated in practice.
 
Prep: During prep career at Cordova High School, Hewitt was a 2017 all-state selection.  He tabbed 54 receptions for 1,070 yards (19.8 average) and 14 touchdowns as a senior, while averaging 97.3 yards per game.  Capped prep career with 1,413 all-purpose yards (285 kick return, 58 rush) and was the leading receiver in the 2017 East-West All-Star Classic. He hauled in 33 passes for 694 yards and seven TDs as a junior.  Was ranked the No. 29 prospect in Tennessee by ESPN.
 
Personal: Parents are the late Judy Hewitt and Marcus Mitchell ... liberal studies major ... born on Oct. 10, 1999.
