FIU Athletics

2003 (Sophomore): Despite being slowed by a lower-back injury, still played in 11 games with 23 tackles (12 solo)...valuable backup who helped a lot on special teams...recorded his season-high five stops against I-A Troy State (10/18) and vs. Jacksonville (10/30) that included four solo tackles against the Dolphins...forced a fumble versus Carson-Newman (9/27) and was credited with a quarterback hurry at nationally-ranked Georgia Southern (10/4)...Dean’s List honoree in the fall of 2003 and spring 2004.

2002 (Freshman): Starting weak-side linebacker who made 44 tackles (26 solo) that ranked tied for fifth best on the team...had at least one tackle in every game and as many as eight stops twice, against nationally-ranked Maine (10/19) and Albany (11/9)...picked up seven tackles (two unassisted) vs. Elon (9/7)...three of his tackles on the year resulted in losses...also forced a fumble against Albany that helped FIU overcome a 20-point third-quarter deficit.

Plantation High School: Three-year starter with 114 total tackles, an interception, six fumble recoveries and three quarterback sacks for head coach Frank Helper...second-team All-Broward County selection of both the Herald and Sun-Sentinel helping the Colonels to the third round of the 2000 state playoffs after upset victories over Carol City and Deerfield Beach...honorable mention all-state.

Personal: Born May 30, 1983...chose FIU over interest shown by Massachusetts and Connecticut...son of Albert and Jan Salas...grandfather Robert Rousbaugh played collegiate football at the University of Miami and for a time in the NFL...Construction Management major.
