FIU Athletics

2004 (Junior): Played in five games, all coming off the bench...ended the year with five tackles...picked up two stops in the season opener at Youngstown State (9/11) and assisted tackles in action against Louisiana-Lafayette (10/2), at New Mexico State (10/30) and at Florida Atlantic (12/4).

2003 (Sophomore): Played in all 12 games and started half of them...finished with 37 tackles (nine solo) and career highs of six stops in two consecutive games vs. Carson-Newman (9/27) and nationally-ranked Georgia Southern (10/4)...had no sacks, but recorded four tackles for losses of minus-6 yards...recovered three fumbles on the season in games against Carson-Newman, I-A Troy (10/18) and nationally-ranked Florida Atlantic (11/22).

2002 (Freshman): Started all 11 games and recorded at least one tackle in every game...finished with 31 tackles (12 solo) and twice, had as many as five tackles in games against national champion Western Kentucky (10/12) and Maine (10/19)...a season-high three solo tackles came against the No. 8-ranked Black Bears...rang up four stops in each of the first two games of the year vs. Saint Peter’s (8/29) and Elon (9/7)...four of his tackles resulted in losses and three of those went for sacks, which ranked him tied for second best on the team in quarterback putdowns.

Belen Jesuit Prep: An all-county athlete in two sports--football and wrestling...first-team All-Miami-Dade in football after 84 tackles, 12 sacks and a fumble recovery as a senior for head coach Richard Stuart...following that season, competed in the Dade/Broward County all-star game...voted his school’s Most Improved Wrestler and honorable mention All-Miami-Dade after placing fourth in the region and qualifying for the state meet as a heavyweight...also competed in high school track, registering a 45-feet-6 shot put.

Personal: Born September 5, 1982...chose FIU over interest shown by UCF and Florida Atlantic...son of Jose and Annie Carreño...Dentistry major.
