2005 (Senior): Defensive leader at free safety who played in all 11 games...ranked third on the team with 55 tackles (28 solo), which was No. 27 among defenders in the Sun Belt Conference... had a pair of interceptions in SBC games against Troy (10/20) and Florida Atlantic (11/26)...had a nose for the ball...scored three touchdowns on season, returning a blocked punt against Kansas State (9/3), taking a 73-yard fumble return for a score against Louisiana-Monroe (11/5) and running back an interception 34 yards for a score versus FAU...finished tied for sixth in the Sun Belt with 0.82 passes defended...ended his career has FIU’s all-time interception leader with 16 picks over four seasons and with 303 career return yards ...picked up nine stops (five unassisted) at Arkansas State (9/24), eight tackles (3 solo) against North Texas (10/15), and seven against Western Kentucky (11/19)...recorded his first career sack against FAU.
2004 (Junior): An all-star candidate who play in and started all 10 games, the first eight at free safety and the last two as a cornerback...ranked third on the team with 74 tackles (41 solo)...had six-or-more tackles eight times...led the team for the third year in a row with five interceptions...ranked 37 nationally with an average of .40 interceptions per game...also had two tackles for losses of minus-5 yards and four pass break-ups...recorded a career-high 12 tackles against McNeese (10/23) in a game where he had two interceptions for 56 yards and a touchdown, only the second time a Golden Panther had run back a pick for a score...grabbed interceptions at Louisiana-Monroe (10/16), New Mexico State (10/30) and versus Florida A&M (11/27)...tied for the team lead with nine stops (seven unassisted) against nationally-ranked Western Kentucky (11/20) and at Florida Atlantic (five solo).
2003 (Sophomore): Saw action in, and started 10 games...recorded 61 tackles (27 solo) and had at least three stops in every game he played...tallied his season-high 10 tackles against I-A Troy (10/18)...led the team with four interceptions, including two in the overtime game at Gardner-Webb (11/15), and had 90 return yards...ranked 34th nationally and second among independents in interceptions...named as the Independent Performer of the Week on Nov. 18 by Dopke.com and to the Independent Defensive Honor Roll...broke up a team-leading six passes...a second-team All-Independent selection.
2002 (Freshman): First-team All-Independent selection and the only freshman defensive back nominated All-America by The Sports Network...co-captain who ranked second on the team with 75 tackles (35 solo)...started all 11 games and had at least three tackles in each...led all tacklers with 16 stops (four unassisted) at Elon (9/7)...also had 10 tackles (six solo) in come-from-behind victory over Albany (11/9)...intercepted a team-high five passes with 102 in return yardage...two of those came against nationally-ranked Bethune-Cookman (9/21) and were returned for 60 yards...forced two fumbles and recovered another...four of his tackles went for losses of minus-9 yards and posted 10 pass break-ups...twice named to the Independent I-AA Defensive Honor Roll.
Flanagan High School: Played four years of football and three of basketball...three-time all-county selection...named all-state after 193 tackles and a county record 23 interceptions as a senior for head coach Larry Brown...appeared in Who’s Who in Sports and was a southeast region All-American...averaged 21.7 points and 13 rebounds for the Falcon basketball team.
Personal: Born July 28, 1981...chose FIU over interest shown by Florida, UCF, Jacksonville, Colorado State and Boston College...son of James and Patricia Turnbull...International Relations major.
