2006 (Redshirt Sophomore): Came in and anchored the offensive line as starting center in all 12 games of the season.

2005 (Redshirt Freshman): Improved quickness helped him gain playing time on the offensive line...played in eight games with five starts, four of those at left guard...expected to compete for the starting center position this year after impressing coaches in the spring...got his first intercollegiate game start at nationally-ranked Texas Tech before a nagging injury limited his play for the next month...settled in at starting right guard for the last three games of the year after season-ending injuries to Ronny Silva and Mike Alvarez.

2004 (Redshirt): Did not compete during his redshirt season but showed tremendous progress at the center and guard positions.

Coral Gables High School: A two-way performer for head coach Joe Montoya who garnered numerous awards as an offensive lineman...three-year team captain and 49 pancakes as a senior...2003 third-team all-state performer and first-team 6A-4A All-Dade...ranked No. 50 among the “Top Dawgs in Recruiting” by the Miami Herald...selected to play in the 2004 Dade-Broward all-star football game.

Personal: Born May 20, 1986...son of Randy Shannon and Edith McCray...father is the defensive coordinator at the University of Miami...nicknamed “Zay”...Sports Management major.
