Biography

2017 (Senior): Appeared in all 18 matches, with 14 starts… A defensive stalwart, Rios assisted the Panthers in all five shutouts on the year, including against No. 24 New Mexico (10/21) and against Omaha (11/16) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament… He assisted the Panthers in a program-first undefeated regular season, and an eight-match winning-streak… He totaled over 1,175 minutes on the year.

2016 (Junior): Appeared in 15 games, making six starts … Totaled 10 points (6g, 2a) and one game-winner … He scored his first goal at No. 5 Charlotte with two seconds left in regulation time to tie the match and take it to overtime in a 2-1 loss (9/24) … He scored the winning-goal with 14 seconds left in double overtime during a 2-1 win at Marshall (10/15) … During the 4-1 win at Old Dominion, Betancur scored the third goal of the match for the Panthers in the 75th minute and then assisted Jamar Campion-Hinds in the final goal six minutes later … He also assisted Joris Ahlinvi in scoring the game-winning goal during the 2-1 win over UAB (11/9) in the Conference USA Tournament quarterfinals … He totaled 615 minutes on the year … He was named to the C-USA All-Conference Second Team.

2015 (Sophomore): Made 18 appearances, with two starts…Recorded nine points, with four goals and an assist…Registered 20 shots with a .200 shot percentage, and 10 SOG with a .500 SOG percentage…Recorded his first points of the season with a career-high two goals, including the game-winner, during a 3-1 win against Penn (9/10)…Recorded three points with a goal and an assist during a 5-1 win against Marshall (9/26)…Registered his second game-winner of the season, in overtime, at FGCU during a 2-0 win (10/20)…Totaled 564 minutes. 

2014 (Redshirt Freshman): Played in 12 games, making seven starts on the season…Finished the year with one goal, five shots with two of them on goal, and logged 459 minutes of action…Earned his first career start at Michigan State (8/31)…Tallied a key goal in the 2-0 victory over Florida Atlantic (10/29).
