Biography

2017 (Graduate Student): Appeared in 17 games, with 16 starts… An anchor on the backline, Hezel assisted the Panthers in all five shutouts on the year, including against Conference USA opponents Marshall (10/7) and No. 24 New Mexico (10/21), and against Omaha (11/16) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament… Offensively, Hezel put up seven total points on the year, with three goals and an assist… Playing at FGCU (10/10), a man down, he scored in a timely manner with only 25 seconds left in regulation, to knot up the score at three, taking the Panthers into overtime, which resulted in the 4-3 win over the Eagles… He assisted the Panthers in a program-first undefeated regular season, and an eight-match winning-streak… Hezel was named to the All-Conference USA Second-Team, the C-USA All-Tournament team, and the All-Southeast Region Second-Team.

2016 (Senior): Made five starts during the first six games of the season, before suffering a season-ending injury.

2015 (Junior): Named to the C-USA Pre-Season team…Named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week (9/8)…Appeared and started in all 20 games…Accumulated six points, with two goals and two assists, in his 1,783 minutes of play time…Totaled 10 shots with five SOG (50 percent SOG)… Notched his first goal of the season in a 7-2 win at Florida Atlantic (9/21)…Had a season-high three points (1g, 1a) in a 5-1 win against Marshall (9/26)… Helped record a 1.28 goals-against-average, including three shutouts…Ended the season being named to the 2015 All-Southeast Region first team, the All-C-USA first team, the C-USA Championship All-Tournament team, as well as the C-USA All-Academic team.   

2014 (Sophomore): 2014 Third Team All-Conference USA selection…Played and started all 16 games for the Panthers at the center back position…Also served as an offensive threat that netted him two goals and two assists this season…Played the entirety of every game except for one…Earned his first assist of the season in incredible fashion, assisting Quentin Albrecht’s bicycle kick goal in the 97th minute to secure the 2-1 overtime victory over San Diego State (9/19)…Scored one of the two FIU goals in the 2-1 victory over Florida Gulf Coast (9/24)…Netted the game-winning goal in the 1-0 win at Marshall (10/25)…Assisted a goal in the 2-0 victory over Florida Atlantic (10/29). 

2013 (Freshman): Named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team…Played in 17 games, making 16 starts for the Panthers…Tallied eight points coming on three goals and two assists for FIU…Played 90 or more minutes in 13 of his 16 starts…Scored his first career goal in a 2-0 victory over Jacksonville (9/22)…Tallied three points on a goal and assist in a 4-0 win over C-USA foe Marshall (10/6)…Also scored a goal in 79 minutes of action at Kentucky (10/26) in a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats.

Personal: Born in Stühlingen, Germany...Is the son of Volher and Andrea Hezel…Has an older brother, Marcel, and a younger sister, Stephanie…Plans on majoring in International Business at FIU.
