MIAMI (October 2, 2017) – FIU football junior punter
Stone Wilson (Nokomis, Fla./IMG Academy) has been named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week, for the week ending Sept. 30, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The honor is the first of Wilson's career.
Wilson punted five times for 229 yards, and an average of 45.8 yards-per-punt, in FIU's 30-29 come-from-behind win over Charlotte on Saturday, including a long of 56 yards and placed two inside the 20-yard line. That 56-yard punt couldn't have come at a better time, pinning the 49ers at their own two-yard line with 4:52 left in the game. His 56-yard punt is second only to his 67-yard boot against UCF in the season opener on Aug. 31.
On the year, Wilson has punted 19 times for 796 yards, or an average of 41.9 yards-per-punt in his four games played. Five of his punts have landed inside the 20-yard line and four have been better than 50 yards.
This week, the Panthers will head back out on the road as they travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where they will meet Middle Tennessee on Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. ET. That game will be carried live on ESPN3.
