With more than half of its roster comprised of new players the FIU baseball team has such a different look this coming season that you might need to hand out "Hello, My Name is" stickers at the FIU ballpark. Since there are so many new faces, from now until Opening Day on Feb. 16 when Missouri comes to town for a three-game series, we'll profile the newest Panthers as well as the returning FIU ballplayers.

Tyler Myrick, RHP, Sophomore

How do you think your freshman season went last year?

TM: I think it went well but we didn't finish up as a team where we wanted to. I think going into this year we have jelled more as a team and have more depth overall. I think those things will help us go further this year.

What is your best baseball experience?

TM: I would say my first college start. That was against Miami at home. To win that game the way we did walking off in the bottom of the ninth with Kolby Follis tagging up from second base to score the winning run was something you don't see every day in baseball.

Give me an example of a game or a moment that makes baseball such a great game.

TM: When Reds pitcher Michael Lorenzen hit a home run on the first pitch he saw the day after his dad died. That was special.

Tell me something away from baseball about you that someone might find interesting?

TM: I have two middle names: Avery Lee. My mom gave me the middle name Avery and my uncle whose last name is Lee said he wanted his name incorporated in my name. So my mom just threw in his last name into my full name: Tyler Avery Lee Myrick.

FIU coach Mervyl Melendez says about Myrick:

"Tyler had a solid fall. He will be a weekend guy but we don't know yet where in the weekend he will pitch. As a freshman All-American coming back look for him to do great things this year."
